Founded in 1994, the School of Advanced Study is a confederation of ten research institutes in humanties and the social sciences in the University of London.

A national and public resource
The School is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE) as a national and public resource. Many, if not most, events at the School are open to the public.
The Institute of Philosophy collaborates with the other institutes of the School in many of its events. For example, the IP collaborated with the Institute for Classical Studies and the Warburg Institute on the summer 2006 conference on islamic philosophy in the age of Al-Farabi.
